Emergency and escape route lighting installed in a retail arcade in Northamptonshire

Emergency lighting in Northamptonshire

Design, installation, testing and certification of emergency lighting — so the escape routes work on the one occasion they matter.

Emergency Lighting

The lighting nobody notices until the power goes

Emergency lighting spends its whole life doing nothing. That is exactly why it gets overlooked — fittings fail quietly, batteries lose capacity, and nobody finds out until the supply drops or an inspector asks for the logbook.

We design, install, test and certify emergency lighting for commercial and industrial premises across Northamptonshire: escape routes, open areas, stairwells, high-risk task areas and external escape points.

We also carry out the periodic testing that keeps it compliant, either as a one-off or as part of a service contract alongside your other electrical testing.

  • How often should emergency lighting be tested?

The recognised standard for emergency lighting, BS 5266, sets out a regime of regular short function tests plus a full-duration test annually, with the results recorded. We can carry out that testing and keep the records, either as a one-off or under a service contract.

  • What is a full-duration test?

The supply to the fittings is interrupted for their full rated duration to confirm the batteries genuinely last as long as they are meant to. Fittings that fail it are identified so they can be replaced.

  • Can you extend our existing system?

Yes. When a layout changes, escape routes change with it, and cover often needs extending. We can assess the existing system, add to it and re-certify the result.

  • Do we get certificates and test records?

Yes. Installation work is certified on completion, and testing comes with documented results you can hand to an inspector, insurer or landlord.

  • Can testing be done out of hours?

Yes. Emergency lighting testing involves interrupting supplies, so it is usually best done outside trading or production hours. We will arrange it around your occupancy.
